In my opinion, the 3 ME3 endings can be split up like this: Destroy: Shepard lives, Relays destroyed but can be rebuilt, Reapers gone, AI gone. However, I agree with one thing - ditching Synthesis. I like the idea of the Crucible, a device secretly built over multiple cycles that becomes your only hope - conventional warfare is not an answer. Convincing them to leave and come back later is just delaying the inevitable. The point of the Reapers is that they're an unstoppable force with literally eons of technological superiority, there's no beating them conventionally. I like some of this, but I really don't think being able to "talk down" Harbinger makes any sense at all. I know this idea takes away some symbolism from Earth, but imo would be a great scenery. So the final mission is to secure one of such beams (maybe, allies capture more beams elsewhere) and then fight your way through the war-torn Citadel to the Tower, with allies coming from all five wings to the central Presidium ring. They build a number of beams to transport husks from captured Earth cities to the Citadel. My alternative: in an attempt to secure the Citadel, Reapers want to flood it with husks asap so anyone willing to plug in and use the Crucible would have to fend off this army of horror. What if a part of the final battle was on Citadel itself? It bugs me out that Reapers moved the Citadel to protect it, but then also built a mass relay in London leading directly into the Main Control Room for anyone to use. Again, these post-factum one-line fixes aren't ideal, but they are already more than what the games have.Ī random idea/suggestion about Priority: Earth I had some time ago: Special thankful note on how you addressed the little big problems: Horizon is made relevant, Control is given a somewhat more plausible foundation, Citadel is unable to control the relays so it is useless to Reapers. I mean, this rewrite didn't suddenly fix a plethora of me2-3 narrative problems, but such an ending would have left me so much less frustrated, maybe even willing to overlook many of said problems. I think giving the player some additional input into what Shepard does with the Reapers helps as well. I definitely appreciate the idea that Control is sub-typed too.Ĭontrol as an ending is definitely the most dependent on the kind of person Shepard is, so I wanted to reflect that. They were scared enough of potential threats like the rachni and the krogan, and this is potentially a thousand times worse. I feel as though the Council would be too afraid to hand anyone the power to wipe out civilization several times over. So from a stand-off perspective, it’s between destroy and truce.

Sure Shepard may not want to do it, and you could argue it’d get mired in bureaucracy about who gets it and what they should do with it, but the galaxy doesn’t have a reason not to use it. Though doubt it’s a stable situation, if the Reapers retreat there’s no reason the new Council wouldn’t develop or sacrifice someone to control the Reapers, and there’s not much they could do about it.
MASS EFFECT 3 SAVE EDITOR ILLUSIVE MAN PARAGON SERIES
Would definitely be the single most badass moment for Shepard in the entire series to play chicken with Space Cthulhu and win. To borrow a line from Jurassic Park, “Life finds a way.”īut I do like the idea that you can have a real standoff with Harbinger, and love a good threat looming on the edge of civilization. Think Earth bouncing back after the extinction event that killed the dinosaurs. It may take a long, long time to recover, but it does. You could also turn this ending into a statement about life’s resilience-how it can persevere even in the face of some absolutely terrible shit happening. Destroying the Reapers has been the goal for the entire game up to now, and, even more so than in the original, this would really force the player to ask themself how far they’re willing to go to achieve that. I think it works, though, as the ultimate expression of Renegade Shepard’s “get the job done at all costs” mentality. Oh, it’s depressing as all hell, definitely. I think it makes destroy a bit too bleak for my tastes, the galactic community without Mass Relays is absolutely impossible, and as many have pointed out, billions will starve in the Sol Sustem alone, let alone elsewhere.
